Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand and Amata Join Hands for the Management of Waste

Posted on | Business News

Amata Corporation PCL and the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) signed a memorandum of understanding on March 5, 2018, for cooperation in the management of industrial waste collection and the creation of a 40 megawatt waste-to-energy power plant at the Amata City industrial estate at Chonburi. IEAT Governor Veerapong Chaiperm and Amata Corporation CEO Vikrom Kromadit presided over the signing ceremony. The cooperative endeavor will serve as a case study for future research into waste management and recovery of energy from waste processing and will last one year. IEAT will contribute academic support to the project while Amata will assume responsibility for education and technology. In addition, Amata will monitor and supervise the handling and treatment of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste for conformity to international standards. The project incorporates garbage separation and targets a reduction of the volume of waste through the familiar “3R” concept of the reduction, reuse, and recycling of garbage. The final stage of the cooperative project will culminate with a plant to process sorted waste into energy. The new plant, with construction targeted to start in October of this year, will have the capacity to handle 1,200 tons of waste daily, out of Amata City Chonburi’s total daily amount of 2,600 tons.

Amata and IEAT have designed and planned the initiative to serve as an example for other industrial estates in the country. Current government policy foresees the development of eco-friendly industries and initiatives, such the Amata City Chonburi project as part of the green strategy under the Thailand 4.0 program. Ultimately, these projects and new industries are intended to contribute to an environment where industry, society, local communities, and the natural environment can thrive together harmoniously, ultimately promoting both human welfare and ecological sustainability.
