AMATA Facility Services Wins The Prime Minister Road Safety Award

Posted on | Business News

The award was presented by H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, to Mr. Aukkares Choochouy, Managing Director of Amata Facility Services Company (AFS) on the occasion of The 15th Thailand Road Safety Seminar at Centara Government Complex Hotel & Convention Center, which was held under the theme of "New decade, New normal, Safe driving".

AFS, a fully owned Amata subsidiary, is managing the common areas at Amata's industrial estates, which includes traffic and safety management. In Chonburi alone, over 200,000 people commute from home to work and back daily with a traffic of 1,800 buses, 48,000 cars and around 67,000 motorcycles within the large 43 square kilometer area. Remarkably, AFS was able to reduce road accidents by almost a fourth within four years only. Therefore, in 2019, the company established the 'Safety City, Smart City' Project seeking strategic coalitions with partners from the public and private sectors, e.g. Amata's customers. Cooperation and understanding of all parties remain a critical success factor, alongside law enforcement, upgrading infrastructure such as lights, improving road conditions and flow, and the usage of technology to monitor accident-prone areas around the clock.

Thailand aims to reduce traffic accident-induced fatalities from 32 people per 100,000 to just 12 per 100,000 by 2027, while also achieving the so-called Vision Zero (no fatalities) target by 2050. Thailand's roads are the deadliest in Southeast Asia with the ninth-highest rate of road fatalities in the world at 32.7 per 100,000 people each year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). About 20,000 people die of such causes here each year, or 56 deaths a day. (source Bangkok Post).
